Díptico sobre o Japão” divide-se em dois espectáculos de teatro: “A Impermanência das Coisas” e “O Templo Dourado”.O primeiro foi apresentado antes da tão desejada viagem da performer ao Japão, o segundo depois. Envolta em imaginação e preconceitos, surgiu “A Impermanência das Coisas”, um solo acompanhado por quatro mulheres de origem japonesa que representam o País onde os terramotos acontecem diariamente. Um espectáculo-simulacro feito numa Lisboa em iminência de um novo grande sismo e que precisa urgentemente de beleza para lidar com a destruição.


What if there’ll be the possibility to start all over again?
Unlike the Portuguese who builds for future generations, the Japanese have the horizon of a
generation, because they know in advance that, for natural reasons, disasters or other causes, what they built today can’t last more than twenty years. And if there is somebody who knows how to start over is the Japanese people. They are use to change every time. Destruction and reconstruction.
I see this kind of state of living in Japan – the state of “impermanence”.
On the other hand, I see, in Portugal, the state of “imminence”.
The last catastrophe in Portugal was in 1755. The big Lisbon earthquake. One of the biggest in World History. Maybe a new earthquake is coming. Tomorrow? Next month? Next year? I don’t know. But we are waiting. So, I presented myself in this first show in a feeling of imminence, surrounded by Japanese women accustomed to living unsteadily. Imminence versus Impermanence.
I used everything I learned about Japan and I selected what could help me to deal with this big event.
With their help, the Japanese women, I tried to understand what is living upon a shaky soil, how can I do to stay calm like a rock, how I prepare a tea for the final ceremony, how I clean the wreck, how I found the Beauty in the middle of the disaster. Perhaps the Japanese obsession with cleaning comes from constant interaction with the wreckage. “ The Impermanence of Things” is a set of simulacrums, which I can share with everyone who want to learn how to survive to the Earthquake. And how to wait.
Because, they, the women, are waiting to. Like Madame Butterfly was.
